The second in the series of Middle Market Power Index reports from American Express and Dun & Bradstreet analyzes the characteristics of U.S. middle market companies engaged in exporting their products and services. The analysis finds firms generally establish themselves domestically before selling abroad, with only five percent (5%) of middle market businesses (between $10 million and $1 billion in revenues) engaging in exporting, while significantly more companies (34%) with more than $1 billion in revenue sell internationally. The report also finds that middle market businesses currently exporting are more likely to focus their corporate growth strategies on products and have been in operation for more than 25 years.
